Andy Hissim of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on 9/8/22 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born on October 30, 1958, in Easton, PA to loving parents Dolores and Harvey Hissim. Andy spent his childhood growing up in Oxford, New Jersey. He graduated from Warren Hills Regional High School in 1977, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Centenary College, and was a life member of the Oxford Emergency Squad.
Andy dedicated more than 41 years of his life serving his community and Nation in law enforcement. In 1978, he started his law enforcement career in Oxford, NJ with his father Harvey Hissim who was the Chief of Police. He later transferred to Washington Township Police Department and the Warren County Prosecutors Office. In 1985, Andy transferred to the Somerset County Prosecutors Office where he spent 23 years and rose to the rank of Deputy Chief of Detectives. In 2008 he retired with more than 30 years of New Jersey Law Enforcement experience. Andy joined the Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) in 2012 serving in Florida and Georgia. In 2021, Andy retired from NCIS due to his continuing battle with ALS.
Andy loved his work as a police officer, detective, and investigator. He enjoyed fishing and boating with his son Andrew and traveling with the family. He was a kind soul who even in the worst of times in his battle with ALS never lost his sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Patricia (Pat) Hissim, son Andrew Hissim of Fernandina Beach, FL, stepdaughter Jackie Sawyer (Ed) of Asheboro, NC, stepson Arty Burd (Kareen) of Fuquay-Varing, NC, mother Dolores (Collins) Hissim of Oxford, NJ, brothers Edward Hissim (Colleen) of Ronceverte, WV, Michael Hissim (Alice) of Washington, NJ, Joseph Hissim (Jamie) of Virginia Beach, VA, Jerald Hissim of New Hope, PA, sister Peggy Hissim of Oxford, NJ, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.
Andy is predeceased by his father Harvey Hissim, brothers Timothy and Rob Hissim.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Drager, Hoffer, and Karakadze families for the love, comfort, and care they provided Andy throughout his battle with ALS. They would also like to thank the Community Hospice, North Florida, the ALS Society and the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home for their help and kindness provided to the family during this difficult time. Final arrangements are pending with the Knoll-Devoe Funeral Home, Washington, N.J. and burial will follow in Saint Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Cemetery, Oxford, N.J.
